# Event setup

Register doors and prepare a playable Halloween event with the in-game setup tools.

## Prepare the town

Build or choose a town with accessible doors and space for residents behind them. Add its world name to `General.enabled_worlds` in `config.yml`. World and lobby options apply to those selected worlds.

Start small: one house, one door and one player test are enough to check your setup before registering the rest of the town.

## Get the setup item

An organizer with `trickortreat.admin` can run:

```text
/tot setupItem
```

Hold the setup item and press the drop key (normally Q) to open its menu. The item stays in your inventory. Sneak-right-clicking with it is also supported. Setup flows display their own instructions; follow the prompt for the selected mode.

## Add a door and resident

Choose **Door menu**, then **Create new door** and **Set door location**. Right-click the door with the setup item as prompted, then choose **Save door** when you return to the menu. The current setup derives the resident anchor from the selected door; a separate entity-location selector is not exposed in the menu.

Leave enough room around the doorway for the NPC to appear. Test that the door opens and closes normally and that the player can approach it. **Door mass creation** registers multiple doors: right-click to add and left-click to delete in that mode.

In the main setup menu, choose **Set the event location** to define the warp. Choose **Start ToT-ing** to open the event and **Stop ToT-ing** to close it. `/tot warp` uses that configured location while the event is started; it does not create a location itself.

`/tot cancel` cancels applicable position-selection flows. Menu-based setup steps use their Back button instead.

## Choose how players enter

There are two useful approaches:

- **Integrated event:** keep `General.use_cach_inventorys: false` and let players take part in your selected worlds with their usual inventory.
- **Separate event inventory:** enable `General.use_cach_inventorys` to make `/tot join` save the player's inventory and provide event items. `/tot leave` restores the saved inventory. Enable `General.force_cach_inventory` as well if participation should require joining first.

```yaml
General:
  use_cach_inventorys: true
  force_cach_inventory: true
```

The key names are spelled exactly as the plugin expects, including `cach` and `inventorys`.

## Check before opening

Test with a player who has `trickortreat.player`: open the costume menu, visit a configured door, collect sweets and complete an ingredient request. Check `/tot stats` afterward. If you use separate inventories, test joining and leaving too.

Review [configuration](/trickortreat/wiki/configuration) before enabling lobby protections, automatic event items or costume armor replacement on an existing survival server.
