Upgrading older installations

Plan a safe move from CrackShot-era ZombieSurvival to the revamped WeaponMechanics build.

Before upgrading

The revamped build changes the weapon system and adds mode-aware arena behavior. Treat an upgrade from an older 7.x installation as a migration to test before reopening your server.

Stop the server and back up the complete plugin folder, arena worlds, world templates, resource packs and any external statistics database. Keep your previous JAR and dependency versions with that backup.

Replace the weapon dependency

The new build requires WeaponMechanics and MechanicsCore instead of CrackShot for its weapons. Install versions appropriate to the new server build, then install the bundled definitions:

/zs weapons install
/wm reload

Update Weapons.yml so mappings reference actual WeaponMechanics weapon identifiers. Old CrackShot identifiers are not interchangeable with the new definitions. You may keep CrackShot for unrelated plugins, but it is not this build's gun provider.

Review the configuration

The current migration layer upgrades older arena records, location formats and supported legacy stations on startup, keeping original files under Data/backup-<timestamp>/. It also extracts old world-backup ZIPs into Data/World-Templates/.

Some legacy entries do not contain enough information to convert fully. Mystery-box, old shop and teleporter entries can be skipped with console warnings; recreate them with /zs station. Wall buys now sell mapped weapons rather than vanilla tools. Existing arenas default to BO2.

Compare your saved files with the new build's generated configuration. Preserve intentional custom settings while reviewing new mode, weapon, armor, loadout and reset behavior.

Check kit purchase commands against your actual permissions plugin. Review optional services, database connection settings and the resource pack before opening games.

Validate each arena

For every arena:

  1. Choose BO2 or COLDWAR explicitly.
  2. Check lobby, spectator and player spawns.
  3. Review rooms and zombie spawn locations.
  4. Update wall buys, mystery boxes and Pack-a-Punch mappings.
  5. Test power, perks, teleporters and any armor station.
  6. Save a clean world template with the arena empty and stopped.
  7. Play through rounds, a down/revive sequence and a complete game reset.

Rollback

If you need to return to the previous plugin, restore the matching files, dependency versions, worlds and database backup together. Restoring only the old JAR can leave new configuration or weapon mappings incompatible with it.

Public release details are still pending. Confirm the final release's migration instructions before updating a production server.
