Elo System

Replace simple point addition with an Elo-style exchange based on the point difference between two players.

How it works

By default, the point-ranking system adds and removes a fixed number of points per kill and death. The Elo system replaces that with a point exchange that depends on the point difference between killer and victim: beating a stronger player is worth more, farming weaker players is worth less.

Enabling the Elo system

Note: /dc menu → Settings → Ranking System → enable Elo System

Configuration

The exchange tables live in the Elo-System section of config.yml. Each line has the format Point-Range;Points-Lost;Points-Won:

  • Point-Range — how far apart the two players are in points. Use xxx-* for the last range to cover everything above it.
  • Points-Lost — what the victim loses.
  • Points-Won — what the killer gains.

There are two tables: one for when the victim has fewer points than the killer, one for when the victim has more. Example: in the Victim-Has-Less-Points table, the line 0-50;-43;30 means — if the victim has 0 to 50 points less than the killer, the victim loses 43 points and the killer wins 30.

If the section is missing from your config.yml, copy in the defaults:

Elo-System:

  # If the victim (killed player) has fewer points than the killer.
  # How to configure: Point-Range;Points-Lost;Points-Won
  Victim-Has-Less-Points:
    - "0-50;-43;30"
    - "51-100;-37;25"
    - "101-200;-20;25"
    - "201-500;-30;20"
    - "501-1000;-35;15"
    - "1001-2000;-20;10"
    - "2001-*;-10;5"

  # If the victim (killed player) has more points than the killer.
  Victim-Has-More-Points:
    - "0-50;-150;78"
    - "51-100;-200;100"
    - "101-200;-300;150"
    - "201-500;-500;200"
    - "501-1000;-1000;500"
    - "1001-2000;-2000;1000"
    - "2001-*;-5000;2000"

With these defaults, killing someone far above you is hugely rewarded (up to +2000), while they lose a large chunk of their lead — a classic Elo curve.
