FAQ & Troubleshooting

Answers to the most common DeluxeCombat questions and fixes for typical setup problems.

Which Minecraft versions are supported?

DeluxeCombat supports 1.8.x through 1.21.x and the current 26.x releases, on Bukkit, Spigot, Paper and compatible forks — Folia included. A few features have their own version floors (Totems need 1.11+, Tridents 1.13+, custom tools 1.9+).

Why are my changes in the data.yml not working?

data.yml is not a configuration file — it's the storage behind the in-game settings editor and gets overwritten by the plugin. Configure DeluxeCombat with /dc menu instead (admin permission required). The only file meant for manual edits is config.yml — see Configuration.

Why are the placeholders not working?

Check that PlaceholderAPI is installed and enabled — DeluxeCombat hooks into it automatically on startup. You can verify the hook is active with /dc-addon list. No /papi ecloud download is needed.

How can I enable combat borders?

Combat borders keep a fight inside the area it started in. They require one of these plugins:

Once the plugin shows up in /dc-addon list, enable the borders:

Note: /dc menu → Settings → Supported Plugins → your plugin → Enable region borders

There are two border types, selectable in the same menu:

  • Physical — spawns packet-based blocks in front of a player trying to leave the combat area. Only the affected player sees them.
  • Invisible — pushes the player back when they try to leave the area.

Why are the WorldGuard combat borders not showing up?

First check that WorldGuard and the DeluxeCombat WorldGuard Addon are installed and listed in /dc-addon list. Then make sure your regions are set up correctly:

  1. Create two regions: a combat region and a non-combat region.
  2. Give the combat region a pvp allow flag.
  3. Give the non-combat region a pvp deny flag.
  4. Give the combat region a higher priority.
  5. Enable Combat Borders under /dc menu → Settings → Supported Plugins → WorldGuard and set the border mode to PHYSICAL.

Where can I find the WorldGuard Addon?

In the in-game Addon Marketplace: /dc menu → Addon Store → Marketplace → WorldGuard Addon. It installs automatically — see Addon Marketplace.

Why does the marketplace say "Marketplace Locked"?

The addon marketplace requires a valid DeluxeCombat license. Right after a server start the license check may not have completed yet — close and reopen the store after a few seconds. If it stays locked, contact support on Discord.

Why are items not dropping on combat log?

By default DeluxeCombat clears the inventory of a combat logger. You can pick a different inventory action:

Action Behaviour
NONE Nothing happens to the inventory
CLEAR The inventory is cleared
DROP The inventory drops on the spot
NPC A killable NPC spawns; killing it drops the items, and the logger dies on next login
CORPSE A lootable corpse spawns
SIGN A right-clickable sign holding the inventory spawns
BLOCK A right-clickable block holding the inventory spawns

Note: /dc menu → Settings → Combat → Punishment → Inventory Action

Why are the ranking holograms not updating?

The usual causes:

  • DeluxeCombat's update interval is too long — lower it under /dc menu → Settings → Point-Ranking-System.
  • The hologram plugin has no update interval configured — check your hologram plugin's documentation.
  • Auto-save stats is disabled — enable it under /dc menu → Settings → Point-Ranking-System. Careful: a very short update interval combined with auto-save can cost performance. Stats are always saved when a player quits.

Why do ranking signs / holograms show question marks?

A question mark means there is no record for that rank yet. Player stats are written to the database when players quit the server (or continuously, if auto-save stats is enabled) — so a fresh install shows question marks until data arrives.

How do I block menus from opening during combat?

If you use DeluxeMenus, you can't put its commands into the blocked-commands list — use an opening requirement on the menu instead:

open_requirement:
  requirements:
    deluxecombat_open_deny:
      type: string equals
      input: '%deluxecombat_in_combat%'
      output: 'false'
  deny_commands:
    - '[message] &cYou can''t open this menu while you are in combat.'
